Colors

without comments

Yasir[clueless]probed

A couple of days ago we were talking colors and what’s in and what’s out. Orange is still king of the ring and that’s exactly what I had in mind when I designed Danka’s website. But Green is picking up; it’s not there yet but coming up gradually. Orange is pretty easy color, depicting any mood or feel in not at all a problem in Orange, be it warm, trendy or gothic. Green on the other side, is more subtle and requires in-depth knowledge of colors. Jakob was telling that he had hard time finding the right funky tone with Green when he was designing SOS’s pamphlet. Figures. While I’m on the topic, let’s not forget Ufone change of corporate identity in recent times, changing from corporate Navy Blue to Orange and Green. I don’t know if it’s just by chance, but they have all in this new young, hip, funky and trendy feel of their corporate identity now. I feel this will go a long way in the projection of their image. On the other hand, Mobilink a while back chose old-and-out Indigo, yuck!

I wasn’t ready to change the colors for my blog yet, but I guess as this is Valentine season (I’m not that kind, by the way) I must use Pink, else I won’t get a chance rest of the year. I’ll change it back to defaul Yellow as this is also Basant, but after a couple of weeks. So, now it’s Pink! If you can’t see the change, press Ctrl+F5.

Survival of the fittest

without comments

Yasir[characterized]explored

I’m great fan of Darwin’s survival of fittest doctrine. Not that much of Darwin himself, but anyway. Ours (Lahore’s) handmade carpets industry is one of the biggest industries in the country. Over a period of five or six years, it’s transforming into something of a battlefield. Everyone’s striving hard to get rid of the competition by hook or by crook. They now have something of a imperialist system in place. Bigger players get bigger and small ones are dying fast. Lock-stock startegy exactly. NO matter how innovative you are, you’re having a hard time fighting in the market. I was expecting a big boom but what I got is nothing more than a humble season. Figures. Anyway, businesses take lifetime to develop into something real and I’m new to the arena. For me, it’s a survival game at first and I don’t look timid.

Today I’ve got a business meeting at Masoom’s, and one in Samanabad. Two different prospects, yet interconnected. It’s not just about business, it’s true about life as well.

One personal front, I’m backing up my whole system today as it refused to start in the morning. After numerous attempts, it finally did, when I sweating with fear of losing all my work. It’s actually that important to me. And I’m constantly thinking on the lines of upgrading my system, only that I’m not big on pocket these days. 1.1 Ghz is old, no? You can’t even run Google Earth successfully. :(

yesterday’s chutti

without comments

Yasir[frightened]announced

Now, there’s so much development work up my ass that I’m literally fretting. Yesterday was just an eenie meenie minie moe sort. Didn’t have much to do except this boring developments as my cable net walla severed all my communication ties with the world by shutting down the network in the respect of Moharram. Now, how’s that for respect!  So, I had to actually wake Aamer up and get out of this whole lot of crap. We planned to just roam around for a while and then landed at a friend’s place (primarily Aamer’s) in a far far away land. Spent the evening, back to base. There’s a Greek proverb that ‘there’s no bad in this world without a good inside’, so my good is, after all, I’m getting into the habit of sleeping early.  Phew!

A good thing, I’d be going to Karachi on 18th on somewhat personal visit.  The bad thing is, I won’t be staying long enough which mean, I’ll board again on 23rd.  That’s fast, no?  Actaully, I have to get my teeth done again from the family dentist and still get back to Lahore before 26th. So, if there’s any chance of basant being on 26th, I don’t want to miss it!

Money’s outdated?

without comments

Yasir[enlightened]announced

It’s out and passing-fad. Find another reason..

Now, this was the outcome of a long business-cum-casual-meeting with a friend after a long time, at Sanjannagar Institute (SIPA). He works at the Philosophy Department of SIPA and has just came from holidays with his family in Austria. We had a long chit chat, discussed this that and everything else that comes in between. It was nice to see him recharged after a long-time. Same had been with me and Aamer, who spent a full week of leisure with our families in Islamabad. Sometimes, misunderstanding cost you a great fortune. Same has been with this friend, but when I joined him yesterday, the air was positive.

Oh well, back to the topic. What’s that keeps you going? 99% percent times, the answer is Money, in one way or another. But there’s a con with all these pros associated with money matters. The more you earn, the more you spend. To balance the equation. It’s nature’s law. You can not save too much for you. With the income, your expenses increases as well. Before you were living in a rented house, now you bought your own. You have to pay installments for your car, you living style has changed, so is everything else. EVen the food you eat. Still, it’s hand to mouth. If I look into my own life, the equation’s still the same. I’m still what I used to be a few years ago, when I was just earning 7k salary. Now, that my shipments monthly bill is about 90k alone, I’m still at square zero. Expenditures have increased but life’s the same. Whatever comes, goes away. And you’re not content with situation. You try to get more, lose more. Get more, lose more. End result: frustration. You lose life, you lose sleep. You lose everything. Family, friends, sleep, conscience, everything. I still admirably remember the days I used to play games with my brothers. You just lose your ownself in the struggle.

Aamer says, “this theory doesn’t apply to you and me”. I think it does, to an extent. I, sometimes, just can’t agree with him. He’s too blunt. He says, we’re not after money, we’re after respect, a status in the society. And that doesn’t come without money. Way of saying things differently. Words don’t make a difference to me, anymore.

We’re just not motivated enough do things without thinking of money involved. There’s no community spirit; just for the sake of helping people. We need to build a sense of responsbility among ourselves. Just little above money and related matters. Money doesn’t provide satisfaction anymore. Giving away does. Money, no more is a solution for me. I can live a life without it

A conversation with a fella

without comments

Yasir[crazy]forwarded

This is what happened today. I had to call this fella Jawad from Daily Times, he’s a cracker when it comes to cracking jokes!

Moi: Assalam O Alaikum, Sir!
Jawad: Hello! (couldn’t recognize)
Moi introduces himself..
Jawad: You’re one of the ugliest persons I’ve ever met. Where the hell are you?
*Moi laughs on the top of his lungs*
Moi: Thanks for the compliments Sir! (and this is typical army-wala Sir)
Converstation continues..

Off the record, he is one of finest from the leftover-human-beings. We’ve only met twice and that too only for a few minutes, but feel like we know each other for ages. Happens.

Yasir[frightened]mailed

Over the weekend when I was lying before my family dentist, I was cursing myself to the core. It’s just not my type gulping those panadols and other weird tablets/syrups that leave you bitter for hours. And I hate doctors, be it dentists or whatever. They prick you where it hurts most. And he was donig it in such a dreadful way that I almost felt like knocking him out. It was ruthless of him. And then we decided to do a Root Canal Therapy instead. Only that it costs hell more than normal filling. But it didn’t hurt as much as I guessed earlier. After all, five injections are more than enough. He drilled out vein in one of the front teeth and put some paper needles – dippnig in some weird solution – into it, asking me to come back after a couple of days. But only to be told that Moi was coming back to Lahore in a few hours time. So he put temporary fills in place and now I’m destined to go back to him again to get my Root Canal Therapy completed. But one thing is sure, the medicine leaking out of the temporary fill leaves your throat bitter all the time. I’m gonna knock him over if he did anything disrespecting this time!
